Mary A. Aldal
June 12, 1928 – March 30, 2020
Mary Agnes Aldal, 91 years, beloved mother and grandmother passed away in Portland, Oregon on March 30, 2020, 32 years to the date her beloved husband of 30 years, Harvey Edgar Aldal, passed away. True love has been reconnected. She was born in Fort Morgan, Colorado, to Grazioso Bonomi and Angelina Marinoni, the fifth child of six children. Survived by her sisters, Josephine Koll and Lucy Nordahl but preceded in death by siblings Severo (John) Bonomi, Rose Givogri, and Mike Bonomi.
Mary graduated from El Cerrito High School in 1946 where she established endearing friendships that lasted a lifetime. Mary worked for the City of Berkeley as a clerical professional which lead her to do report typing for students at Cal Berkeley. She also worked at Standard Oil in Richmond and during voting season worked the election board for the City of El Cerrito. Mary finished her working career with the Richmond Unified School District, retiring in 1990. She was a longtime member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, El Cerrito, California.
Mary loved playing games like bingo, bowling, and cards. In later years many of her girlfriends would gather for weekly card games. She was an avid shopper who loved the San Francisco 49ers, especially Joe Montana.
She cherished her San Francisco 49ers and Coca Cola memorabilia. Mary enjoyed dancing and listening to music. Her favorite was big band music and would go with her girlfriends in the 1950s to the USO dances.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Debra Foster, son-in-law, Bruce Foster and her beloved grandchildren, Mark, Alyssa, Camille Foster, sister-in-law Charlene Holmstrom and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, and great-great nephews. Mary was immensely proud of her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren and her love and devotion shined through on all she did for them.
In September of 2015, Debra moved her mother to Portland, Oregon where Mary lived in assisted living facilities, The Springs Living, Oatfield Estates and Elmcroft of Sellwood. Mary’s beautiful smile captivated many people that she met, and they always complimented her radiant smile.
In this unprecedented time, quarantined, unable to gather for her funeral, she was entombed at St. Joseph’s Mausoleum in San Pablo, California with her beloved husband Harvey. Hopefully, we will be able to gather on June 12th, to celebrate her life. Many thanks go out to the staff at Elmcroft Sellwood and Bristol Hospice who kept her comfortable and safe during her final days. In remembrance, please donate in her name to Bristol Hospice, Portland, Oregon or the National Dementia Foundation.
