Obituary of Cletus L. Minten
Cletus Leander Minten, age 90, of Keizer passed away on April 21, 2020 at the Village at Keizer Ridge. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, a Rosary and Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salem.
Cletus was born in Shaw, Oregon to Henry and Magdalen Minten (Schneider) on November 2,1929. He attended St. Boniface in Sublimity. After graduation, he married his high school sweetheart, Betty Lou Schumacher on August 5,1950.
Cletus and Betty were married for 69 years and together they raised six children on a five-acre farm in Turner. Cletus meticulously raised marionberries, sweet corn and cows while maintaining a large orchard, garden and yard.
Cletus was employed as a raymen patcher at the Simpson Timber Company in Albany and retired after 35 years. He was a good provider for his family, was an extremely hard worker, and he took great pride in his family, home, and work. Cletus enjoyed gardening, tending to his yard, trees, and plants, and videotaping family, grandchildren and great grandchildren at family, school and sporting events. He also enjoyed decorating for Christmas and other holidays. Cletus was a devout Catholic and proud member of the Knights of Columbus, Shaw Council. Cletus will be greatly missed by his large family.
Cletus is preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Louise Mohr and Juanita Minten, brothers, Ed, Donnie and Bernie Minten, daughter, Marla Joy, and grandson Scott Minten.
Cletus is survived by his wife Betty, sisters, Dorothy Hughes, Patty Fairbanks, and Mary Ann Wold, and brother, Allen Minten, as well as his six children; Roger Minten of Salem, Denise and Dave Bouska of Hillsboro, Dennis and Sue Minten of Salem, Janell and Dan Brainard of Oregon City, Danette Baley of Salem and Irvin and Heidi Minten of Turner. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
