Obituary of Salyer Alva Lane
Alvie was born in Ysleta, Texas to Salyer and Katie Lane. He attended Fort Hancock High School in Hancock, Texas. He played football, and despite his size, he was one of the toughest players. In 1962 he enlisted in the U. S. Army, where he served in Germany and drove motor pool for the generals. He was discharged in 1968 and returned to El Paso, Texas to work with his dad on the family chicken farm. He then owned his own chicken farm. In 1971 he followed his sweetheart, Beth Backer, to Oregon; they later married.
He worked for J.G. Construction and Capp Homes before starting his own construction company, ASAP Homes. He employed family members including his son Wayne. Alvie’s motto was “a man can do anything he sets his mind to”. In 1982 he worked with Mel (Finney) Bolander, B&T Logging for 17 years learning many jobs of the trade. He then worked 5 years for Don Olsen Logging and from 2005 until he retired in 2019 he worked for Brent Parries with Pacific Forrest Contractors, Inc. and ran the processer.
Alive is survived by his wife Beth Lane, son Wayne Pruitt (Sharon), grandchildren Jason Hood (Sarah), Christopher Hood (Molly), Branden Hood (Monica), Ashley Desemple (Philip) and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Salyer and Katie Lane, sisters Tommy and Jane and brother Thomas.
