Obituary of Everett L. Buttolph
February 26, 1936 – February 21, 2020
Everett L. Buttolph, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away February 21, 2020.
Everett was born February 26, 1936 in Jamestown, ND to Howard and Alice Buttolph along with his four brothers, Russell, Vern, Lloyd and Gerald.
Everett graduated from Oregon City High School, then enlisted in the Oregon National Guard. He married his life partner, Peggy in 1961, and started a family soon after.
Serving his community and providing comfort to his neighbors during their time of need was Everett's calling. As an active church member, civic servant and first responder, Everett was not only hero to his family members, but also to the communities he served for decades, even in retirement.
Everett began his public service as a firefighter when he was a mere Junior in high school. Everett's fire service began in Oregon City, then continued to Gladstone, serving as their first Fire Marshal. Everett then returned to Oregon City, becoming their first Fire Marshal. From there he went to Canby as Chief and then finished his 34 year fire career as Chief at Clackamas County Fire District 54 in Redland, Oregon. While in the fire service, Everett also served as Clackamas County's Assistant Medical Examiner and providing part-time Ambulance support for Willamette Falls Hospital.
Everett was also very involved in his church, the Jaycee's, Oregon City Optimist Club, served on the Board of Directors for CFCU and the Gladstone City Council.
Everett loved the outdoors; taking his young family on camping trips all over scenic Oregon; fishing and crabbing at his place in Nehalem in retirement; working in his beautiful backyard; tinkering on vehicles in his spare time; continued volunteer work and most of all enjoying time with his family throughout life.
Everett is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Peggy; children, Brent (Rosy), Dana (Pete) and Brenda; grandchildren, Marissa, Dylan, Paden, Connor, Ryan, Paige, Austin and Jacinth; great-grandkids, Madison and Mason; and his two surviving brothers Vern and Gerald. His strength, compassion and love will be missed.
A memorial for Everett will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, March 7, 2020, at St. Stephens Lutheran church, 290 W. Gloucester, Gladstone, Oregon, 97027.
