Obituary of Laurel Lee Williams
Laurel Lee Williams, of Keizer, Oregon, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 14th, 2020, at the age of 83.
Laurel was born in Montana on November 30, 1936. He spent his early years living in various places such as Montana, Oklahoma, and Texas before settling with his family in Willamina, Oregon, where he spent a large portion of his childhood. He graduated from Salem High in 1955 (now known as North Salem High). He met Mary Jane (Sexton) Williams, the love of his life, at Skateland in 1955, and the following year they married on May 18, 1956. They eventually settled in Keizer, Oregon, where they began raising their family of four boys.
Laurel began attending Keizer Community Church in 1966 and was a faithful member for over 53 years. Laurel lived by his faith in the Lord and raised his family in the church. As part of the church family, he participated in many aspects including designing the new church building in the 1970s, working on the construction of the new building, worked with the youth group, taught Sunday school, and was on the board of elders.
Laurel was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was always quick with a silly story or joke. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, eating the delicious meals she prepared, fishing the rivers and lakes of Oregon, and spending time with his family.
Laurel held many jobs over the years ranging from cabinet builder, cookie delivery man, weigh master for the State of Oregon, contractor / builder, and residential architect. In addition, he served in the Oregon National Guard in the 1970s where he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. The work he was most proud of and enjoyed fully was designing homes for residents in the Salem-Keizer area until he retired five years ago.
Laurel’s loving wife Mary preceded him to heaven on November 28, 2018. They had four sons: Dale (Anna Mae) of Keizer, OR; Douglas (Patty - deceased) of Klamath Falls, OR; Dan - deceased (Kari) of Keizer, OR; David (April) of Scottsdale, AZ; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren.
Laurel's family wishes to extend their sincere thanks and deep gratitude for the wonderful help and care given by Willamette Valley Hospice and the staff at Brookdale Assisted Living.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 29, at 11:00 a.m., at Keizer Community Church, 380 Churchdale Ave. N, in Keizer.
