Obituary of Rosalie Marjorie Pflederer
Rosalie M. Roth, Donais, Pflederer
Nov. 3, 1922 - Jan 10, 2020
Rosalie, passed away peacefully at 97 years of age on the morning of Jan. 10, 2020, after struggling with failing health issues.
She was born and raised on a berry farm in Milwaukie, Oregon to Simon and Lydia Loder, Roth and had 3 siblings, Esther Roth Fruend, Helen Roth Mckillip, and Richard Roth (all deceased).
Rosalie married Ross Donais on Dec. 28, 1943, and had 4 children, Randy Donais, Steve Donais, and twins, Brian and Jeanne Donais.
After about a decade Rosalie and Ross separated and she remained single until after the death of Ross in 1986. In the next 3 years, Harlan Pflederer of Tremont, Illinois entered her life and on Nov. 4, 1989, they married and she moved to Tremont and her family grew to include his children Jacqueline Pflederer Petrov, Thomas Pflederer, Ken Pflederer, and their spouses, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Prior to this Rosalie worked for several decades at the Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland Oregon as a graphic artist. After retiring in 1984 she traveled to Papua New Guinea to research and write the book “To them gave He Power” about work there begun by Vic and Elsie Schlatter to bring medical care, literacy and the gospel to tribes hidden away in the impenetrable highlands.
In 1991, a second book “Sunrise on the Amazon” was completed after spending several months in the Amazon region researching the work begun by Luke and Christine Huber, of reaching the isolated and forgotten village people, who had no word of the gospel.
After her marriage to Harlan, a third book about her life, called “Out of the Berry Patch” was written providing a transparent view of all the ups and downs in her life, and the path to surrendering her life to the will of God, and trusting her Heavenly Father with every detail of her life.
Little did she know that she would face the deaths of her two sons, Brian and Steve, within a few year's time. Yet God was faithful to carry her through that dark valley, and many more.
After Harlan’s death 22 years after marrying, she resettled in Portland, Oregon and lived out her remaining years to the delight of the surviving family members in Portland.
Rosalie is survived by her eldest son Randy of Veronia, Oregon, daughter Jeanne and husband Ralph, and Brian's wife, Anne, and Steve's wife, Jonna, and many grandchildren here, and also by all of her stepchildren, and their grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
As she would say, “God led her all the way through life and to Him belongs all the praise.”
A memorial service will be held on Feb. 22, 2020, at 11:00 am at the Woodstock Bible Church 5101 SE Mitchell St. Portland, Oregon 97206.
