Obituary of Norbert Thomas Annen
Norbert Thomas AnnenNorbert Thomas Annen August 17, 1931 – December 25, 2009 Norbert Annen, 78, a lifetime Mt. Angel resident died December 25th Christmas Day. Norb was born to Henry and Josephine Annen on August 17, 1931, on their farm in the Mt. Angel area. He attended schools in Mt. Angel. He served in the US Marine Corp in Korea from 1950-1955, where he earned a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. Upon returning, he married his childhood sweetheart, Phyllis Wolf. They were married 51 years before her death. He worked on the family farm with his brother, Karl and then worked building construction and road construction until his retirement. Norb lived all his life on the family farm until a fall required him to move to Lakeside Assisted Living and then Cedar Village Memory Care Facility until his death. Norb had a soft spot for animals and showed that by adopting two dogs from the Humane Society. He loved to watch his grandsons play football for the St. Paul Buckaroos and he loved to garden, which he shared all his extra produce with anyone who needed it. He was a lifetime member of the Macksburg Rod and Gun Club and a member of the American Legion where he served as Past Commander, Past Recruiter, Past Sergeant-At-Arms and on many other committees. Norb is survived, remembered, and loved by his children; Nancy (Dennis) Day of Salem, Ron Annen of St. Paul, Carol (Bo) Boltjes of Salem, Greg (Shelli) Annen of Silverton, Rob (Candy) Annen of Mt. Angel, Chris (Mark) Boothe of McMinnville; grandchildren, Jeff, Jeremy, Josh, Connor, Jill, Cole, Megan and Ciara; and sister Gertrude Rumely of Mt. Angel. He is preceded in death by his wife Phyllis; granddaughter Courtney; sister Dee and brothers Sylvester, Karl and Cletus. Rosary will be Dec. 30 at 7:00 PM with Memorial Mass December 31 at 11:00 AM, both at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 575 East College St., Mt angel. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery. Contributions can be made to the Calvary Cemetery Upkeep Fund, c/o St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Arrangements by Crown Memorial Center – Salem.
