Obituary of Gustav Ferdinand Carl Wardin II
West Linn resident and Newberg business man, G. Ferdinand Wardin was 83.
Mr. Wardin was born in Portland, Ore. to Anna and Albert Wardin of Hillsdale, affectionately called Ferd. He grew up working hard in the unrelenting family business, Fulton Park Dairy, attending school, graduating from Benson Polytec in 1947. The dairy work dominated Ferd’s time from 8 years of age providing much of Portland with pure milk until its closing in 1952. He milked over 100 cows by hand twice a day. Ferd was very successful in business, but counted his years, milking cows and running routes for Fulton Park and Alpenrose Dairy as highlights . Not shying from hard work was the corner stone of his life. Born the second child of five , Ferd is survived by his four siblings, Dr. Albert Wardin Jr.,Nashville; Doris Lemley, Tacoma; John Klem Wardin, Newberg; and Ardys Braidwood, Portland. Ferd is a third generation Oregonian and proud of his German, Swiss heritage. Ferdinand married the love of his life, Marion Morton, of Tigard, in 1950 . He often said his marriage, the unfailing love and care by Marion was his special blessing.
Marion and Ferdinand have three children, Debra Ann Bartlett , John Ferdinand Wardin, and Bradley Earl Wardin ( deceased) whom they raised in Raleigh Hills. He is also survived by four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Ferdinand was a noted salesman selling thousands of vehicles , both for Ball Ford and then in his own business, Newberg Ford. He garnered loyal customers, partners and employees thru out the his career spanning fifty years . He engaged in drag racing for 25 years, winning awards on the West Coast, with his brother, John Wardin .He turned his business acumen to real-estate and was successful in commercial and residential. In later life he turned to collecting classic and older Fords. The Rose City Model T club outings were one of his favorite activities.
Ferdinand struggled with health during his last two decades. His family would like to thank the Keizer staff for caring for him during his many visits. Mr. Wardin loves Jesus Christ, and counted his church family and minister, Vernon Hollin of Norwood Christian Church, as integral. A Memorial will be held in the Spring.
