Obituary of Enid J. Green

Enid J. Green was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, on November 21, 1927. She passed away peacefully on April 17, 2012. Enid was born to Clarence and Martha "Martie" Bulkley. The Bulkley family moved to Portland, Oregon a year after Enid was born. She attended Vestal Grade School and Grant High School. She married R. D. "Dip" Depee in 1951 and had three children. They divorced in 1974. She married Gordon Green in December 1974. The couple lived in Gresham, Oregon. Enid, known to many as "EJ", was a quiet, gentle, and thoughtful soul with a quick wit. When young, she skiied and hiked Mount Hood while a member of the Mazamas. She enjoyed reading to her children, sewing clothes for her children and her daughter's Barbie Dolls, sewing specialty costumes for her oldest daughter's ballet presentations, playing Bunco, bowling, making and skillfully decorating birthday cakes using her extensive collection of specialty icing tools, and visiting her parents who lived nearby. Enid adored babies and small children, kitties, small dogs, and birds. She especially liked roses, pansies, the smell of lilacs and daphne in the spring, sipping on favorite strawberry milkshakes and root beer floats, photographs and paintings of the ocean and of reflections on water, especially snow-capped mountain reflections, and fine china and figurines made in England. She enjoyed being near the ocean and was an avid beachcomber. Enid's hobbies included knitting baby booties, baby clothing and slippers, crocheting, playing cribbage and Mexican Train domino game, shopping for bargains, and making cookies from scratch. Her specialty was snickerdoodles, which she happily gave to family and friends. She also made excellent peanut brittle at Christmastime for all to enjoy. Enjoying the helping of others as well as the hospital atmosphere, Enid and her Mother became volunteers for Adventist Medical Center in Portland in the mid 1990s. Genealogy became an interest in later years where she used her tenacious nature to extensively trace her Bulkley roots without the use of the internet. Enid and Gordon were constantly traveling the Pacific Northwest and beyond in their recreational vehicles, often with the Elk and Eagles travel clubs. They enjoyed traveling to Canada to visit her relatives there. They also enjoyed several trips to Hawaii and cruises to South America, Central America, the Caribbean, Alaska, and Mexico, creating many long-lasting friendships along the way. She especially enjoyed the beauty, weather, and hospitality of the people of the Hawaiian Islands. She was fascinated by the San Blas Islands and enchanted by its people which she talked about for many years after their visit. Enid and Gordon spent many happy hours playing table games with friends and family, entertaining in their downstairs bar, and playing Yard Darts, Horseshoes, and Holey Board on sunny days in their yard. She enjoyed taking walks with her husband and youngest daughter and feeding the deer when visiting Lake Merwin Camper's Hideaway. Enid worked for Portland Power & Light in her early years. She represented the company by being a part of its Rose Festival Parade float entry twice, one being Rose Festival Parade of 1949 on the float "By A Waterfall". Her typically understated response for why she was so fortunate to be one of three female employees specially chosen to ride the floats was that "There were only three of us working in the office." She later became a secretary for the Charles T. Parker Construction Company to put her son through college. She continued her position when the company became Grigsby-Todd Construction Company. Enid will continue to be remembered, loved, and missed by all who knew, appreciated, and loved her. Enid is survived by daughters Donna Depee of Gresham, Oregon, Beverly Harper, Granite Falls, Washington, son Christopher Depee of Beaverton, Oregon, sister Donna Wood of Portland, Oregon, cousins Rob Peterson of Comox, British Columbia, and Barbara Smith of Winfield, British Columbia, three Grandchildren, and one Great-grandchild. There is no planned service at this time.
