George Henry Huffer, 81 of Milwaukie, OR died peacefully, at sunrise on April 13, 2012. George is survived by his beautiful bride of 59 years, Geraldine Agnes Huffer of Milwaukie; his beautiful daughter, Roxanne May Ortiz and her husband, Raymond Ortiz Sr of Milwaukie; 6 grandchildren, Steven Geoffrey Alexander, Richard Joachim Preinesberger, Heidi Maria Preinesberger, Andrew John Preinesberger, Raymond Ortiz Jr and Alex Sandro Ortiz; 4 great-grandchildren, Syrus Scott Alexander, Madison Rosaline Alexander, Gabriel Rai Ortiz and Collin River Hormann; and many nieces and nephews. He was born inSouth Bend,WA, the son of the late George Washington and Ida May (Charron) Huffer. He was orphaned at 8 years old and lived with his grandmother, Nellie Huffer and many aunts and uncles. George and Gerri had a story book romance. They began dating in 1947. George attended Raymond High Schooland Gerri attended Valley High School. George left High School in the 11th grade to enlist in the Air Force. He prided himself in the fact that he was a high school drop out and competed well against college grads. He used to say that if he only finished high school he may have become President. George and Gerri were married July 17th, 1952 after he returned from a tour of duty in Germany. Mr. Huffer was known to say that he lived 3 lives in his lifetime. He enlisted in the Army Air Force in June 1948, where he held the rank of Master Sgt. upon his retirement of 21 years on December 1969. During his service in the Air Force, Mr. Huffer was a pit crew mechanic and refueler for the Indy 500 from 1968-1970. In 1969, after retiring from the Air Force, he became a shock absorber salesman for Monroe Auto Equipment Co. and completed 20 years; he also held the office of District Manger responsible for 5 states when he retired. He was twice retired in 1989 at the age of 58. George always loved the color blue and was known to say “If you want something to look good get it in blue; if you don’t care get it in any color.” There will be a memorial serivice on April 18, 2012 at 1:00pm at Milwaukie Covenant Church in Milwaukie, Oregon.
