Obituary of Burke Arnold Matthews
Burke Arnold Matthews, 56, passed away on Saturday March 24, 2012 near his
Portland home. Burke was born on November 25 1955 to Rodney Charles and
Evelyn Louise Matthews. Burke was born and raised in the Portland area and
lived most of his life in the Pacific Northwest, also residing in Kihei Maui, Hawaii
for 10 years. Burke attended Benson Polytechnic High School where he excelled
in football and baseball. Burke’s pride and joy were his daughters, Sandra Mix
and Kristina Zook. Burke spent many of his latter years with his wife Sandra
Lee Bogart, who preceded him in death in 2007. Burke was an accomplished
machinist, welder, and painter and worked in these professions in the Pacific
Northwest and on Maui.
Burke is survived by his daughters Sandra (Matthews) Mix and Kristina
(Klemstein) Zook, both of Portland, sisters Leslie Ann Matthews of Pullman
Washington and Laura Matthews-delaNux of Kihei Maui, Hawaii, four grand-
daughters, numerous nieces and nephews in the Pacific Northwest and
Maui Hawaii who he loved very much, and his long-time friend Regina Tree
of Portland. Burke is preceded in death by his parents, Rodney and Evelyn
Matthews.
A celebration of Burke’s life will be held on a future date to be announced in
Portland Oregon.
