My dear buddy, I love you and miss you. Linda and I will carry you in our hearts and think of you every time we see a movie you would have enjoyed. If a person has one friend like you in their entire life they should count themselves blessed. Thanks for all the wise counsel and long discussions about innumerable topics that we shared over the years. God must be happy to see you.

Daran was my mentor and inspiration, but most of all I would like to think he was my friend. Ellen and I were introduced to him when our son Andy became involved in the Special Olympics Golf program over 20 years ago. The next thing I knew, he had me coaching right beside him. Daran created this space where every person that came in contact with him knew that he was there just for them. The light that he carries will never go out. It just shines from a different place. You eagled this course my friend.

I knew Daran to always be kind and a generous person as well as the consummate gentleman. We played many a round of golf and he was always very kind to offer tips here and there as well as a good golfing partner. It's hard to believe that I won't ever see his warm, smiling face again, or receive any more of his emails. I considered him a very good and true friend. Although he is gone, I will always cherish his memory and take comfort in knowing that an angel is watching over him. Peace, prayers and blessings be with him and all who loved him.

D and I worked together, along with a great group, at Progress Downs 35 years ago. We kept in touch over the years with the occasional dinner, round of golf, and of course his wonderful Christmas cards. He signed 'Be Yuleful' one year and that was so like him. Only golf pro I ever knew that got into golf because he thought it looked like fun on TV. He was a unique, kind, fun man and I'm sorry our paths won't cross again. He loved his family and my best to them.

Thanks for coming to our wedding 41years ago. We still laugh at the nickname you gave my wife when she fell off the back of my bike on a dark winter night in the rain at Cannon Beach (remember? you instantly started calling her "Splat" as you helped her get up from the puddle)

Thanks for coming to our wedding 41years ago. And for the honeymoon sweet at the Travel Lodge. What did you ever do with your Captain America boots you wore that day? We still laugh at the nickname you gave my wife when she fell off the back of my bike on a dark winter night in the rain at Cannon Beach (remember? you instantly started calling her "Splat" as you helped her get up from the puddle)

I'm sorry that I haven't seen you in thirty six years or more. You were my godfather. One of my first memories was of you playing guitar. Wearing those spiffy plaid 70's pants. We had a good time. Thank you for the memories. They are a gift. Your Godson. Devin Schmitt

You changed my life for the absolute better. We were too young to make it past our insecurities, but in our time together you pressed me to get an education and I pressed you to “go pro”. I so regret we lost touch; so regret I did not know you were ill. Everyone needs integrity and humor in their friends and you shared both in spades. Love always, Cate.
