Obituary of Geneva Lois Nolen

Services will be Saturday Feburary 4, 2012 at 2 pm. At the Discovery Christian Center 6030 SE 136th Ave Portland Oregon 97236 The youngest child of John D Dixon and Olive Mae Mulliniks. Born Feb 22, 1937 in Fistown Oklahoma. . Life started out rough for Nevie and there were rough patches throughout the years. She would still start each day with a smile no matter how rough the path was. All of this taught her to be the person that each and everyone loved. As her daughter had said once “she was a gem of lady”. To those who got to know her, they got to understand what a special lady she had become. On January 7, 1952 she married the love of her life Eugene Paul Nolen. Whom she had met a few years earlier, fate would bring them back together 2 years later for them to spend the rest of their lives together. The first child of Eugene “Nubbin” and Geneva “Nevie” Nolen, Brenda Kay was born May 22, 1952 in San Juaquin California. Their second child Ricky Gene was born October 15, 1953 in Portland Oregon. Kenneth D would become their third child, born Novemeber 28, 1954 in Pheonix Arizona. On April 7 1957 their fourth child Dale E Nolen. A precious child that would be with them for 20 joyful days. He was born in Portland Oregon and passed away on April 27, 1957. On August 13, 1958, a bitter sweet moment in time, their baby girl Judy Diane was born. . In her earlier years you would find Nubbin and Nevie on the bank of some river fishing. With a diet coke in one hand and a pole in the other. With their favorite spot being Hells Canyon on The Snake River. On June 15, 1998 Nevie lost the love of her life after 46 years of marriage, something unique these days. She would live everyday, knowing that someday she would be reunited with the love of her life, Nubbin. After the passing of her loving husband, Nubbin, she moved to her hometown of Portland Oregon to be with her son Kenneth D. For these 13 years she continued life as she had from day one. To wake up with a smile, put a smile on others faces. Help those who were in need of help. Even if it was the shirt off her back, so long as she had an undershirt. Every morning she would read her bible. Something she was very faithful about . Everyone who knows/knew her, knew how much she loved her crafts. She always had some sort of project going on. Whether it was a quilt, album or some knew craft trend she would do it. There was an ongoing joke that when you received a quilt from her to watch out and be careful for sometimes she would leave straight pins in it, or they would get lost in the material or batting. Her outings always consisted of going to JoAnn’s, Wal-mart and sometimes Michaels. She visted these stores, so much they knew her by name and always wanted to know what she was working on. To the ones that would want to learn or even if it was just to do something special with Nevie, she would teach anyone willing to sit and learn how to make a quilt or how to make just about anything that she knew how to do. She loved to travel and visit with her family. Either by bus or plane she would go to California to visit her son Ricky and daughter Brenda as well as her grand kids and great grandkids. She also traveled to Montana to visit her daughter Judy and her grand kids and great grandkids that lived there. Although she did not like the cold, she endured it to spend time with her loved ones there. In her travels she would also take mini vacations to The Dalles to visit her late brother Cordell Dixon. Which they enjoyed to yard sales, which sometimes turned into arguments. One particular time they both wanted this yard ornament. In which her brother let her have it. They also enjoyed playing “poop on your neighbor” with her nieces Suzy and Mary. A game in which they argues a lot. She also traveled to Fresno to visit her late sister Willie Soto in which intaled in late night discussions and lots of laughter. She welcomed all visitors who would travel to Portland to visit. She loved to just sit and visit about anything. Whether you talked about the past, present, or just what was happening that day. It didn’t matter to her as she loved all of her family. She may not have said the exact words. But everyone knew she loved them and cared about them. Every visit always brought many fond memories to each and everyone. Memories that each of us would share and will continue to share with others. Geneva was an active member of The Discovery Christian Center. Under Pastor and Mrs Love. She went to church as often as she was able to go. Enjoyed the home visits from the pastor and his wife. As well as enjoyed the CD’s that they brought to her of his sermons. In the last 6 months more and more people have come to know her. One in particular her Chaplin Vickie was amazed that she had started and completed 22 quilts in 6 months. Every week when she would visit she would be overly excited to see what new quilts were made and pull them out to take a look on the newest quilt. Another example is, her hospice nurse Mary had someone come up to her, that wanted to do a story about how Hospice was and worked for those in need of it. She immediately thought of Geneva and how she pushed herself to finish the 22 quilts in time. Mary came out and told the family about this. Sad to say Geneva did not make it to talk with the journalist. Geneva’s family would like to give a special thanks to Portland Providence Hospice. She is survived by her sons Kenneth D Nolen of Portland Oregon and Ricky Gene Nolen of Oroville California and daughters Judy Diane Bohrer of Deer Lodge Montana and Brenda Kay Morgan also of Oroville California, 16 grandkids, 42 great grandkids 9 great great grandkids, and many nieces and nephews. As well as a brother Jim Dixon.
