Obituary of John Fredrick Miller

John Fredrick Miller, 93, passed away on January 24 in Tigard. John was born to John C. and Marie Miller in Lackawanna, New York on September 26, 1918. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Buffalo and began working at Linde Chemical on the Manhattan Project during WWII. While working on the Project, John met Marjory Walker and the couple married in October of 1944. John continued his work as a chemist in Buffalo, NY; Granada Hills, CA, Seattle, WA, and then in Tacoma, WA since 1957. He retired from Pacific Resins and Chemicals in 1988, earning distinguished scientist awards and having his name on many patents. Aside from his chemist work, John’s primary passion outside of his family life was gardening. He was a Master Gardener and active in the Washington State University extension program. John and Marjory were long standing members of the First Presbyterian Church in Tacoma. Following Marjory’s death in 2008, John moved to Tigard, Oregon to be closer to his son, John Jr. John is preceded in death by Marjory, his son Jeffery G. Miller in 1970 and his brother George Miller. He is survived by his son John F. Miller, Jr, of Beaverton, Oregon and daughter Sandy Ann McCurdy of Pullman, Washington; grandchildren Kyle and Keagan McCurdy and Eric and Vicki Miller; and great-granddaughter’s Nevaeh and Alanis.
