Obituary of John Edward Brown

John Edward Brown, Jr. was born September 23, 1939 to John and Ruby Brown in Blytheville, Arkansas. John spent most of his early years in Carlsbad, New Mexico. He attended Howard Payne Baptist College in Texas and later earned his master’s degree from Portland State University. He married Nancy Holland in August of 1967. They settled in Gladstone, Oregon and together raised 3 children; Greg, Jan and Danielle. John was a 7th and 8th grade science teacher for the North Clackamas School District for 30 years, teaching for 28 of those years at Ickes Jr. High School and later at Sunrise Middle School, where he retired from in 1994. After he retired he spent 2 years teaching at the New Covenant Christian Academy. John would often volunteer at his grandson’s schools teaching science lessons and doing fun experiments at Kraxberger Middle School and Grace Christian. He was a member of New Life Christian Center, The Gathering Church and Westwood Church. John passed away from congestive heart failure on January 20, 2012 with family by his side. He leaves behind his wife Nancy and his children Greg Brown and his wife Michelle, Jan Bratsch and her husband John and Danielle Kowalski and her husband Kent, his sister Judy Hodnett and his grandchildren Ryan, Nicole, Keala, Jake and Colton. There will be a memorial service at a later date. John touched many lives and will be missed by all who knew him.
