Samuel Charles Nix
Charles was born April 27, 1929 to William (Bill) and Laila Dean ( Boyett ) Nix in Little Field, Texas.
Charles was raised near Encino, New Mexico and attended school in Encino. Charles worked on several Cattle ranches in New Mexico, Eastern Oregon, Tualatin, and Deer Island, Oregon. He enlisted in the Army and served from November 9, 1950 to October 23, 1952. After his military service Charles attended New Mexico State University at Las Cruces from 1953- 1957 graduating with a degree in Animal Husbandry.
In 1962 Charles Married Marlene Tracy and they spent their Honeymoon in Vancouver Canada at the Canadian Quarter Horse Show.
Charles went in to be a Professional Horse trainer and showed in more than 10 States in the U.S. He was also a member of the National Cutting Horse Association, American Quarter Horse Association, Arizona CUTTING Horse Association, Northwest Cutting Horse Association, and was an approved NWCHA Judge. He was also a Ferrier ( Horseshoer).
Charles and Marlene attended the 50 year College reunion in Las Cruses in 2007. Charles volunteered for the Santiam Canyon Stampede Rodeo at Sublimity. He also enjoyed playing Golf and Bowling.
Charles’s surviving family include his wife Marlene Nix, Son William Charles Nix, Granddaughter Adele Alice Nix, Sister Joyce Nix of New Mexico, Sister in law Geney Nix, Brother in law Comyn LeRoy Tracy, Sister in law Jackie Nix, Nieces Michele (Scott) Walberg and family of Turner, Oregon, Linda of New Mexico, Debra (Bobby) England of California, Linda and Jerry Hiltunen, Erika of Washington, Janice(James) Dowley, Tanya Strong, Brenda Brisco and family, Cathy( Jimmy) Stokes and family of New Mexico, Sandy( Ed) Hanks of Arizona, and Nephews Dean Nix and family, Randy(Peggy) Nix and family, John Strong , Michael Strong, Lee( Heidi) Brisco and family, Andy Brisco and family, Bobby Strong and family, Jakie( Holie Strong and family, David(Kitty) Yorgenson and family of Oklahoma, and Robert Nix and family of Texas.
Charles’s Funeral Service will be held at the Peoples Church 4500 Lancaster Drive NE Salem, Oregon at 11:00 AM on January 27, 2012. In Lieu of flower the family wishes that a contribution be made in Charles’ name to the local chapter of The American Diabetes Association.
