Obituary of Ethel June Jensen Newton
(Ethel) June Jensen Newton was born to Ethel and Charles N. Jensen on January 15, 1928 in Yakima, Washington. She grew up with her two older sisters, Audrey and Orpha, in Bickleton, Washington, where she often rode her beloved horse 3-1/2 miles from home to the small school in town. She loved her youth on the Jensen ranch and much preferred being in the wheat fields with her dad, hopefully on horseback, to spending time in the kitchen with her sisters and mother. She graduated from Sunnyside High School in 1945 and attended Oregon State University, where she met Robert P. Newton. They were married August 24, 1947 in a garden wedding at home in Bickleton. Bob and June raised seven children; Linda (James) Chaney, athy ewton, Peggy Newton, Bill Newton, Mike (Bev) Newton, Jeff (Kristen) Newton, and Heidi (Robert) Miller. Mom had a way of making each of us 'kids' feel special and loved. She and Dad were also blessed with eighteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Mom played piano in church for years, enjoyed playing her accordion and had a beautiful voice for song. All of her kids have fond memories of Mom and Dad singing harmony during our many road trips to visit grandparents, go camping, or visit the coast. Mom enjoyed traveling, homemaking, and making beautiful quilts for family. She loved all kinds of games including bridge and pinochle. In the late 1970's, Mom and Dad built their dream home in Camp Sherman, near Sisters, and retired there in 1983. The family enjoyed many happy reunions in Camp Sherman or the Oregon coast. She and Dad also enjoyed many years of touring around the country in their motor home. She entered into her eternal home in Heaven on January 14, 2012, just a few hours before her 84th birthday. Her seven children, several grandchildren, and a niece were honored to spend some very sweet moments with her in the days prior to her leaving us. A celebration of our precious mom's life will be held in her home town of Bickleton, Washington sometime this spring.
