I knew Jim both professionally and personally. He was a true professional and an immensely likeable guy and a great addition to every thing he did. I was fortunate to be able to share his 71st birthday rafting with Jim on the Middlefork of the Salmon River in Idaho.

I was two years behind Jim at Bend High School but got to know him better after he had graduated. He was one of the least likely guys I knew to join the Marine Corps...and succeed. When he came back to Bend after his Marine service, guys who had given him all kinds of guff during the high school years soon learned that this was a new, more focused, determined young man who wouldn't put up with any "jazz" from anyone. It was a marvelous and positive transformation and I was privileged to see it up close. I haven't seen him for many years and was saddened to see of his passing. He was a funny, interesting, and throughly decent guy. Jim Crowell

I have only known Jim a few years but he became a good friend and honest confidante during that short time. I will miss his advice and even some of his criticisms. His wide knowledge base combined with a sharp sense of humor were impressive. I sure wish he could have been here for the next presidential election. I'll try to get you an absentee ballot, Jim.

I 1st met Jim at Treasure Island naval base in the Marine barracks. We were both students in the ET school there. Both from Oregon & both loved Jazz. We spent most of our miserable, pay sitting in jazz clubs in San Francisco. I went back to Japan upon discharge in 61 & Jimbo dutifully took me to LAX. Then he drove all the way down Sepulveda Blvd from SF Valley to San Pedro in 61 to pick me & my wife up a few months later. He was a great help in getting us started in Los Angeles. I last saw Jim in Feb 2010 when my wife & I dined with him at the Pumpkin Ridge Golf Course in HIllsboro, OR. Jim had a gruff no nonsens exterior & did suffer fools. He was a positive influence in my life & sometimes serrved as a role model. The world will be a smaller place with out him.
