Obituary of Mary Katherine Thackery

A memorial celebration and reception will be held Saturday-January 28th, 11am at Sellwood Baptist Church 1104 SE Spokane St, Portland OR 97202. Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made in Mary's honor to: The Sunshine Division, Medical Teams International or the charity of your choice. Mary is survived by her daughters; Mary Lee Williamson, Dixie Jo Cullens, Betti Ann Nugent, her seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Born August 21, 1922 in St. Helens, Oregon to Adah and Joseph Jacober. Mary was the baby with two older brothers, Alfred and Richard. The family lived on Dixie Mountain in Scappoose before moving to Portland Oregon where she attended Joseph Lane, later retuning to Dixie Mt. Mary graduated from Hillsboro High School and went on to Northwestern Bible and Missionary Training College in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was married and raised three daughters Mary Lee, Betti Ann and Dixie Jo. She worked for the City of Portland where she worked for the Police Department, Water Bureau, Communication Bureau and the City Refuse Department. Mary ended her career as the Administrative Assistant for the Bureau of Personnel Services. Mother was at home, in the loving care of her family and friends, until she left them to go into the waiting arms of her Heavenly Father January 10, 2012. Her legacy includes her Daughters, Mary Lee Williamson, (David Williamson), Dixie JoCullens (Ceven Cullens) and Betti Ann Nugent, (Tom Nugent). Grandchildren; Jessica Nugent (welcomed her home), Ceven Cullens, Curt Cullens, Kristine Nugent-Ohls, Ceith Cullens, Jennifer Nugent, David Williamson, Tim Williamson and her Great Grandchildren; Audrianna Main, Jenna Cullens, Jarred Main, Caelan Cullens, Cole Cullens, Daren Williamson and Hank Cullens Mom loved the Lord! She loved her family, her church family, church, her friends, her cats, stray cats, dogs, her flowers, her exercise class, buffets, coffee, traveling, reading, her Bible, Mysteries, Archeology, history, her chair, her home, her wood stove, dry wood, the beach, the river, the creek, hot springs, swimming, hot tubs, cinnamon rolls, blackberries, cherries, raspberries, strawberries, pot roast with potatoes, carrots and onions, fried chicken, walnuts, black licorice, Italian Prunes, figs, Taco Time, blackberry pie, her PJs, Winnie The Pooh, Opera, Symphony, music, lima beans and ham, Sausage with Red Potatoes and Sauerkraut, she loved getting cards and letters, ordering bulbs, she loved to learn, lemon meringue pie, she loved nature, birds, trees, rocks, mountains, she loved Mt Hood, the snow, the rain, the brief Portland summers, winter, spring, and fall, she accepted everyone and time and time again people have said how kind Mother was. She was giving and generous sharing whatever she had with others. She was a princess to her Mother, Father and Brothers. She was a Mother, Brownie leader, a Kings Daughter’s leader, a Sunday School Teacher and PTA member, friend and provider for her daughters. She taught us to love the Lord, be independent, love reading, travel, music, art, flowers, animals and nature. She mirrored “If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all”. We want to thank all of you that visited Mom and made her last week here with us so wonderful. A very special thanks to Olive Luhman and Susan Wold for their help, many meals, visits and phone calls. Thank you Pastor Mike and Ramel for your tender care and love. Words could never express our deep gratitude to Dee Stark. As Mother always said: “May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face shine upon you. May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace.” Numbers 6:24-26
