Obituary of Anna Maurer

Anna Lonchar Maurer, 88, died December 31 inPortland,Oregonfollowing a sudden illness. Anna was bornApril 8, 1923inCoatesville,PAto Frances and Matthew Sersic, both young immigrants from Bosnia-Herzegovina andSloveniarespectively. She was raised inPennsylvaniaandOhioand graduated from high school inCleveland,OH. She attendedOhioUniversity, graduating suma cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1944. She was the first in her family of eight sisters and one brother to graduate from college. She married Robert Adams Maurer onApril 27, 1946inBellaire,Ohio. They resided in several cities across the country throughout their lives, includingTigard,Oregon,Green River,Wyoming, andWheeling,West Virginia. They had three children – Robert, Janet, and Margaret. Anna loved to travel. She and her family took many trips in and outside the country. She was 85 when she accompanied the family on a two week visit toNew Zealand. Being an avid reader and a current affairs devotee are understatements when describing Anna. Her favorite activity, though, was spending time with her family. She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church inTigard,Oregonand belonged to the Tigard Lion’s Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Maurer, and her son, Robert F. Maurer, who was killed in the Vietnam War. Anna is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and WilliamDavenportofPortland,OR, and Margaret Ann and Douglas Smith ofGreen River,WYand three grandchildren, Nicole and husband Jason Urasky, Robert D. Davenport, and Grant T. Davenport. A family service was held at St. James Episcopal Church in Tigard, Oregon; interment of ashes will be in Belmont, Ohio.
