Obituary of Edward Earl West
Edward Earl West was born October 13, 1943 in Long Beach, CA to Homer & Clara (Kirby) West. He was raised in Checotah, OK and Central and Southern CA. He graduated from Buchser High School in 1961 and almost immediately went in to the armed services as a Marine in the fall of ’61. After leaving the Marines in ’64, Ed graduated from West Valley College; class of ’66.
He met his sweetheart, Darlene Bowen, and they were married in Carson City, NV just after Valentine’s Day in 1966. Ed worked at Boeing Aerospace Co. as a professional machinist, was a proud member of the Cherokee Nation, Coach-Mentor- Referee-Officer of Children’s Soccer Club, a member of the International Association of Machinists/AerospaceWorkers/Woodworkers and Vice President of Happy Hoppers Square Dance Club, and of course, the United States Marine Corp. He enjoyed golf, soccer, cribbage, history, science fiction, computers, Ford Mustangs, square dancing and country music.
Ed is survived by his loving wife, Darlene of Camas, WA; daughter, Barbara Wolfe and her husband Doug of Camas, WA; daughter, Christine Gorger and her husband Eric of Vancouver, WA; his son, Mark of Longview, WA; and brother, Kurt of Klamath Falls, OR.
There will be a memorial service with military honors Tuesday, January 3, 2012, 2:30 pm at Willamette National Cemetery in southeast Portland, on Mt. Scott. Memorial contributions in Ed’s name can be given to the American Cancer Society – Lung Research & Advocacy.
