Obituary of Marillis Marie Davison Meyers

MeMe was born in Pasadena, Calif., grew up in Marshalltown Iowa, Scappoose Oregon and Portland Oregon. She married young and had two sons, Fred and Jeff Meyers. As a single mom she got her teaching degree and then a master’s in Library Sciences. She worked in the Portland Public Schools as a librarian, mostly at Adams High School for many years. MeMe had a practical side but she also had a rich inner life where she could journey to many magical places. Her inspiration came from nature and she was often happier living in her van in a friend's field than in a house. She spent many happy hours wandering on Sauvie Island. MeMe had a contagious sense of humor that she used to counteract the hard realities of life and her light heart always rose above difficult circumstances. She wrote poems and dialogs in iambic pentameter that she attributed to insects and to Merlin the Magician of fable. Her insect poems were made into a Claymation movie, “Insect Poetry”, which can be found on YouTube. Over the years she's had many groups of friends. She made a deep impression on many people who met her or knew her. She was a favorite daughter, a special sister to Audy, a loving mother to her sons, an inspirational friend and loving and actively involved step-grandmother and a devoted partner and wife to Michael Martin. MeMe died with friends and family around her, excited to find new adventures. There is no one who can take her place. There will be a memorial gathering for MeMe Sunday February 12th, 2012 at McMenamins Kennedy School in the Jordan Room from 6:00 p.m. till the cows come home; anyone who knew her is welcome.
