Obituary of Michael Keith Bixel
Michael K. Bixel died suddenly in his Tualatin home on Nov. 11. He was 53 years old.
He was born on June 23, 1958, in Portland, where he was raised and graduated from Franklin High School. He earned a bachelor of science with honors degree in education at Portland State University in 1986.
For 25 years he has been a teacher at Mt. Tabor Middle School.
On June 20, 1987, he married Jennifer McCarthy, whom he met when working as an outdoor school counselor for Multnomah County, going by the name of “Thor.” This was work he loved.
Surviving are his wife Jennifer, daughter Sarah, and sons Brendan, Paul and Daniel, all of Tualatin; mother Isabella Osmond of Wilsonville; and sisters Lisa Perry of Portland and Teresa Jackson of Durham.
A Mass will be celebrated in St. Francis Catholic Church, where Mr. Bixel was a member, on Saturday (Nov. 19) at 10 a.m. The church is located at 15651 S.W. Oregon St., in Sherwood.
Arrangements are in the care of Crown Memorial.
