Obituary of Deltie Benjamin Moore

Deltie Benjamin Moore was born on April 20th, 1925 at a small farm near Colville, Washington. He was the 3rd of 8 children. He attended school off and on through the 8th grade. During the great depression, times were tough; especially for farmers. A typical school lunch was usually an onion or a piece of bread with lard. In the Navy he had some interesting experiences. He became friends with Jesse Owens, the Olympic multiple gold medalist. He also spent 2 years in the “land down under”, Australia, where during his shore leave he would swim with sharks and search for octopi in the Great Barrier Reef. Later he decided to find his Biological father. This brought him to southern Oregon. His father had remarried, and he learned he had another 6 siblings. His father worked for Medco Logging, so Deltie joined him as a logger and worked there for the next 33 years as a Choker Setter at the logging sites. One of his half-sisters had a very nice looking friend who was a senior in high school. Deltie fell in love with her and he married Lorraine in June of 1953, just days after she had graduated high school. Deltie and Lorraine had 3 boys: Leroy, Larry and Leslie. As the boys were getting older Deltie began his search for God, as he was worried about their future. He went from church to church. Then, one day, Ken and Kathy Hawkins came by in the door-to-door ministry (by horse back), and started a Bible study with Lorraine. Later Deltie joined in on the study and the familyʼs 4 generations of devotion to Jehovah began. When Deltie retired in 1987 he and his wife moved to Gold Beach, Oregon where he spent the next 20 years attending congregation meetings with many dear friends. They wanted to be near the coast and took several sightseeing trips. While there, he became caretaker for the estate of a very wealthy man on the Rogue River. This position included a comfortable residence for him and Lorraine. It was a great place for the family to gather and visit for many years. As the years passed, diabetes took its toll on Lorraine and she became totally dependent on Deltie for her care. He lovingly took care of her at their home for the last several years of her life. After 53 years of being happily married she fell asleep in death in October of 2006. Her death took the wind out of his sails, and left a void that would not be filled. However, in January of 2009 he came to live with his son Leroy, and his grandson Sonny in Estacada. For the next 10 years they took summer trips all around Oregon and traveled to visit relatives and friends from past congregations. Recently Deltieʼs failing health confined him to a wheelchair and the use of oxygen. He lost his fight for life on April 26th, 2019. He was 6 days past his 94th birthday. He is survived by 2 sons, 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 3 great- great-grandchildren. He lived long and strong... And he will be sorely missed until the family is back together in the promised paradise. Survived by: Larry and Mary Moore, their children and spouses: Michelle and Robert Pierce, Lawrence and Mollie Moore, Jennifer and Kiko Castorena, Elizabeth Moore, Samantha Moore and Nicholas Moore Leroy Moore, his children and spouses: Brandon and Amy Moore, Justin and Kristi Moore, Randy and Heather Moore, Roselyn Moore, Jon and Rachel Moore, Amber Moore, Samuel (Sonny) Moore
