Obituary of Everett W. Hendricks

Everett W. Hendricks DOB April 28, 1925 DOD April 12, 2019 Surrounded by family, longtime resident of Gresham, Oregon, Everett William Hendricks died peacefully on April 12, 2019 at the age of 93 and is now with our Lord. He was the son of Mabel and Orris Hendricks of Hood River, Oregon.He had an older sister named Zella. Everett attended Hood River High School before joining the U.S. Army in August 1943. He was an infantry man assigned to the 81st “Wildcat” Division and served in the southern Philippines and western Pacific, earning several service medals. Everett was qualified as an expert Rifleman, was a radio operator specialist, and he served as a Chaplain’s Assistant. The “Wildcat” Division occupied Aomori in Northern Honshu, Japan at the end of WWII. After the war in 1946, Everett met Mary Lou Woody of Hood River. He attended college for a year, and after a period of courting, he married Mary Lou in a beautiful wedding at the Hood River Methodist Church.They celebrated 71 years of marriage in 2018. Four children blessed their union:Becky, Greg, Cathy, and Violet. Everett was a hard worker and supported his family in the dairy industry and later as a steamfitter in Local 290, working on residential and commercial heating systems. After several years of work in Oregon, he and Mary Lou moved to Bow, Washington and Everett started Hank’s Oil Burner Service there. They moved to Gresham in 1977, and he worked for domestic heating companies until his retirement at age 58. Everett had a lifelong desire to minister and a deep compassion for people. Over the years, he was involved in music, evangelism, and visitation in homes and hospitals, and served on staff at churches he attended. He liked to sing and performed in many choirs with his beautiful tenor voice. He loved to golf and camp and fish.The family enjoyed many trips through Oregon, California, and Washington.He enjoyed yard work and puttering in his workshop. Battling dementia, Everett was admitted to Pacifica Memory Care in June 2016. The family wishes to thank everyone at the facility for their outstanding personal loving care given to Everett. Also, thanks are given to Providence ElderPlace for the superb care for his health and wellbeing and to Nurse Anne, Vicki Lee FNP, and Valerie Silliman, LCSW for the care at the end of his life. Everett is survived by his spouse Mary Lou, children Rebecca Alex, Greg Hendricks, Cathy Howard, and Violet Godin, 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, sister Zella Laraway of Hood River, many nieces and nephews, and many friends. Ev will be remembered for his love of God and his cherished family and friends.
