Obituary of Sue Ann Bailey

Born October 17, 1937 in Kingsville, Texas to Emil Hiram Pullin and Winnetka Boswell Pullin
Sue grew up in West Texas border towns as her father, then in the US Border Patrol, was transferred regularly from Kingsville to Marfa, to Alpine, to Pecos and then to El Paso during the second World War.When her father transferred to the US Immigration Service in 1950 the family moved to Tucson, Arizona where Sue graduated from Tucson High in 1956.
Then on to Long Beach California and Long Beach City College.Sue transferred to Stanford University in 1958 and graduated in English Literature in the class of 1960.She met and married her husband, Rod Bailey in Palo Alto on March 19, 1960.A happy 59 year union ensued.
Following short stints in Moses Lake Washington and Sacramento California Sue and Rod moved to the Seattle, Washington area in 1965 and toWoodinville, Washington in 1970 when they bought Rod’s family home from his brothers following Rod’s parent’s deaths.
They lived at “The Farm” in Woodinville for 40 years where they raised their three children Elizabeth (Betsy) Earls, now of Salem, OR,Ben Bailey, now of Woodinville, and Will Bailey, now of Seattle.Following the sale of their business in 1999 and entering “retirement” they moved to Salem, Oregon to spend more time with daughter Betsy, her husband Kevin Earls and grandson Aidan.
Sue was a generous hostess who loved to gather friends and family for parties, celebrations, and informal get-togethers.She had a unique talent for making her guests feel welcome at any event she created.She was a person of many passions throughout her life including gardening, sewing, quilting, cooking, her family, her friends and friendships, theater, travel and helpless animals for whom she always had a home.Sue and Rod were active members of Cottage Lake Presbyterian Church in Woodinville Washington and, following the move to Salem, of the Salem First Presbyterian Church where she has served as a Deacon and an Elder.
Sue will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends, three children and three grandchildren Aidan, Hunter and Hannah, her sister Karen, and nephew and niece Toby and Dinah Greenfield
A memorial service will be held at Salem First Presbyterian Church at 3:00 pm on May 17, 2019.
