Obituary of Daniel Maurice Hartzog
Daniel Maurice Hartzog was born to the union of Dr. Ernest E. Hartzog and Mrs. Jeanne (Shorty) Hartzog on December 17, 1958 in San Diego, California. He was a resident of Tualatin, Oregon.
Dan attended elementary schools in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, Jersey City, New Jersey, San Diego, California and Portland, Oregon. He graduated from Wilson High School in Portland. After three years of undergraduate studies at California Poly Technic State University in San Luis Obispo, California, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physiology from Portland State University.
From an early age, Dan was an avid tennis player and later in life, became a fair weather golfer.He was also an incredible inspiration and role model for his children and other young tennis players in Southern California and the Pacific Northwest.
Dan was a member of the Championship Tennis Team while attending Wilson High School and Cal Poly and, he was ranked in the top 10 in Tennis in the Pacific Northwest. He continued to practice the game of tennis several times a week at Tualatin Hills and other centers in Portland until his death as well as during the annual Hartzog Family Tennis Tournament.
Dan departed this life on April 13, 2019 at his home in Tualatin, Oregon.
Dan was the companion of Cynthia (Cyndi) Quarantello for more than 20 years until his passing. He was joined in holy matrimony to Brenda Brown Hartzog from 1988 to 2000. To this union, two children (Nicole Hartzog and Danielle Hartzog) were born. Dan was preceded in death by his mother, Jeanne (Shorty) Hartzog.
Dan was employed as a Senior Sales Executive at LLM Publication in Beaverton for 6 years and had worked in the pharmaceutical industry for many years prior to that. He loved sports, but particularly enjoyed playing tennis and golf with several of his very close friends and family members, including his dad and children.
Dan’s passion was his daughters Nicole and Danielle, as well as his love for the game of tennis.
He taught them how to compete in both tennis and basketball and was always their number one fan.
Our beloved Daniel leaves to cherish his memory his loving daughters, Nicole Hartzog and Danielle Hartzog, his companion, Cyndi Quarantello, his father and step-mother, Dr. Ernest Eugene Hartzog (Marilyn), his sister, Sharon (David) Bruno, nieces, Jessica (Jesse) Clark, Samantha (Ryan Dougherty) Bruno, of the Portland area, cousins Keith and Kevin Johnson, Teri Alfred, Roland Alfred, Wendy Wallace, Kristy Wallace and Michael Wallace, the mother of his children Brenda Brown Hartzog and a host of close friends and co-workers.
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 26, from 4-6 pm in the Club House of the Claremont Golf Course at 15800 NW Country Club Drive, Portland, OR 97229. A private burial will be held at the Riverview Cemetery.
