Edmund Richard Sandberg was born August 13, 1943 to William Vernon Sandberg and Edna Mary Sandberg in the small town of Stayton, Oregon.Ed spent his childhood growing up in the Stayton area.He attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Stayton and later Serra Catholic High School in Salem. He met and fell in love with CeCelia Marie Kroll in Salem and they began their life together on June 6, 1964.They didn’t hesitate to begin their family, eventually welcoming 4 children: Richard Allen, Robert James, Diane Marie, and Renee Lynn. During their early years of marriage, the couple moved to Lebanon, Oregon. Ed began raising mink for his father-in-law, Leo.This would become Ed’s lifelong career. In 1984 Ed and Celia started their own mink farm in Scio, OR.Ed ran the farm until he retired in 2008. Over the years, Ed enjoyed camping, bowling, and socializing with friends and family. He was an active member of the Elks Lodge of Lebanon, OR during the 70’s and 80’s. He enjoyed inviting family and friends for campfires and Bratwurst roasts on summer evenings on his farm.He also enjoyed playing several types of card games and traveling to the various casinos in the area to play slots.Ed was always a lucky guy! Following CeCelia’s passing in 2008, Ed met CeCelia’s high school friend Bonnie Voll and they became good friends, enjoying each others company during their final years.
Ed passed away on April 13th, 2019.He was preceded in death by his parents Vern and Edna, his sister Alice Weige, his brother Marvin Sandberg, and his wife of 45 years, Cecelia. He is survived by his children Richard (Stephanie) Sandberg of Auburn, WA, Robert (Teresa) Sandberg of Reno, NV, Diane (Jamie) Soderstrom of Jefferson, OR, and Renee (Jason) Harris, of Tacoma, WA.He is survived by his six grandchildren: Marcus, Nathan, Theodore, Emily, Julia, and Kaitlyn.He is also survived by three step grandchildren and three step great grandchldren (Sodertstrom).
