Obituary for Sammy Ross Ford – 1947-2021
Sammy Ross Ford was born on September 26, 1947 in DeQueen, Seviers, Arkansas to Samuel E. Ford and Ruth Mae Ross. He passed on November 9, 2021 at home after a long illness. He is survived by his two sons, Steven W. Ford of Gresham, OR and Joseph R. Ford of Black Hawk, CO and granddaughter, Makenzie Ford of Wyoming. Sam also is survived by cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, S.E. Ford, Ruth M Ross Ford, sister, Allie Jo Nichols and daughter-in-law, Jennifer Nelson Ford.
He was raised in Albuquerque, NM and graduated from Rio Grande High School. He played football during high school. He served in the U S Army from 1966 to 1969. He served in Germany and VietNam. Through his lifetime, he lived in New Mexico, Arizona, Texas and Oregon. He was married to Wanda Ford, Yvonne, and Melba Fults. He spent the majority of his life as an over-the-road truck driver. Steve was Sam’s primary caregiver for years and after retiring he and Steve moved to Oregon. In Oregon, his ex-wife, Wanda DeMooy, and her spouse, Harold DeMooy helped Steve with care giving for Sam. Sam spent his time on the computer, doing some fishing and visiting with family.
Sam will be missed by his family and friends.
Services will be announced and held at the Willamette National Cemetery.
