Obituary of Florence (Marina) Audrey Stites
Florence (Marina) Audrey Stites, 90, died peacefully at home on November 5. Marina was born to Grace Sharkey and Raymond Matlock and raised in Queens, NYC. She married John Stites in 1954 and brought up 3 sons in Queens and Long Island, where she managed Dr. Stites’ chiropractic office. They had a happy life together until his death in 1998. At that time she moved to Portland, OR. Marina became very active in her new community making many friends through her participation in the Golden Dragons dragon boat team, PSU’s senior education program, on the board of the Opera Guild, Portland Art Museum and many other organizations. She was featured in U.S. News and World Reports and Senior News as an example of healthy aging. Marina loved to travel and enjoyed many trips in N. America, Europe, Africa and Asia. Her vibrant personality, warmth, caring and infectious laughter will be missed by her friends and family. She is survived by her loving family, sons John (Cynthia Long), James and William, grandsons Eric (Anna), Devin (Aarlena), Saxon (Rindy) and Cooper, great-grandson Dylan, and daughter-in-law, Phiamma Elias. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 16th, 1- 4pm in the community room at 1500 SW Park Ave. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
