Obituary of Sakue Thomson

Sakue "Suzie" Thomson (Ryuzaki) was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.  She left this world on August 29th 2021 at the age of 92 at  home in Newberg, Oregon surrounded by her family who will continue her legacy by taking care of each other and by doing their best to take better care of themselves.

She was born to Tatsugoro and Yoshino Ryuzaki (Abe) on March 30, 1929 in Iwojima, Japan.  Suzie is survived by her only son, Toshikazu Thomson and her daughter in law, Catherine I. Thomson of Newberg, Or.   Her 3 granddaughters;  Chrissy L. Rice of Oak Harbor, WA. , Jenny L. Landry of Manson, WA. , Kelly A. Thomson of Wilsonville, Or.  and her 5 great grandchildren;  Samantha R. Thomson of Oak Harbor, WA. , McKenzie A. Rice of Bellingham, WA. , Kalani J. Lee of Newberg, Or. , Zachary J. Lee of Bellingham, WA. , and Xaiviar A. Lee of Oak Harbor, WA.

Before moving to the states in 1966, she held a variety of jobs including;  street car driver, seamstress, waitress, caretaker, and civilian service to military members stationed in the area.  Since coming to the states her main jobs were waitressing and caretaking, at times working 2-3 jobs while still making time to help with her grandchildren.

The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Suzie.  She loved cooking for her friends and family, gardening, origami, and games of solitaire.  She found her greatest happiness in caring for others.  Assuming the role of being solely her responsibility to feed and clean after everyone, she's famously known for what her family has coined as her catch phrase, "That's my job!"

While she was small in stature, her feisty personality far exceeded her size.  She was stubborn, spunky, and strong willed in the best sense of the words.  As the Matriarch of our family, she showed us the truest definition of what it means to love, and to follow your heart even when voices around you are directing you otherwise.

We plan to hold a Celebration of Life event, but the where and when is still yet to be determined.  We would appreciate anyone who may have stories or sentiments to share, as we know Suzie had a much bigger life that went beyond just her immediate family.  We would also like to suggest that you please consider generously tipping your favorite server(s) in her honor.
