Obituary of Elizabeth Diane Gibson

Elizabeth Diane Gibson (nee Leathers) passed away on Aug. 14, 2021 due to complications of cancer at the age of 62. Beth was born Dec. 15, 1958 in Portland, Oregon and lived in Oregon much of her life. Beth also lived in Bozeman, Montana during the years 2007-2011 and 2012-2014 with short stints in Seattle & Portland in 2011-2012.

Beth, as she was called, attended Jason Lee and Atkinson elementary schools and graduated from Franklin High School in 1977. In high school she was active in the band and performed the high jump on the track team as well as being on the swim team. She went on to earn an associate degree at Portland Community College.

Beth was active in the Christadelphian church her whole life having been baptized in 1976.  She frequently attended church gatherings and Bible Study days. She served as a missionary support person in Puerto Rico for a year in 1990-91 and traveled to Georgetown, Guyana in South America for a Bible campaign.

She also was an expert at knitting and even had a small business selling fine knitting. Her handiwork can be seen online at:  https://www.instagram.com/finehandknits_bybeth/ and  https://www.facebook.com/FineHandKnitsbyBeth/

Beth loved music and played the piano, flute and banjo; she also attended symphony concerts with her Aunt Betty. She played the flute in the high school band and shared her piano talents with her church, frequently serving as the accompanist during church services.

Beth also was a cat and bird lover. She provided for wild birds via bird feeders and bird houses while spoiling her two cats, Koda and Maggie.

She spent much of her later years caring for her family, especially her father and aunt Betty. She was the primary caregiver for them until her illness overtook her. In order to care for them, she moved back to Portland from Montana and then to Tigard when they moved there. Her last job, which she truly enjoyed, was driving elderly and infirm people to doctors appointments as a driver for Wapato Shores. This care for people really exemplified who Beth was. Her quiet leadership and loving diligent care will be sorely missed by her family.

Beth is survived by her father, Robert J. Leathers, her Aunt Elizabeth J. Leathers; Aunt Dorothy A. Leathers; brother William J. Leathers and his wife Vi Leathers; sister Debbie L. Rediger and her husband Todd Rediger; brother David F. Ford and his wife Marina Ford; niece Alishia V. Randall and her husband Josh Randall; niece Raquel A. Sparks and her husband Anthony Sparks; nephews Stephen J. Leathers, John D. Ford and James S. Ford; great-niece Amelia Randall and her cousins Lola E. Sletten, Lois Lamb, Ruth A. Leathers and Thomas R. Leathers.

Beth was preceded in death by her mother Shirley Mae Leathers.
