Obituary of Charles Anthony Vedack
Charles Anthony Vedack (Chuck) died August 15th, 2020 following a prolonged illness. Chuck was destined for a unique life. He was born three months premature on July 6th, 1975 at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland Oregon, where he lived for his first three months.
A gifted mechanic, Chuck drove truck for a short while after getting his commercial driver’s license. Yet, he was a rambling man, and didn’t like being tied down to a place or a job. Chuck was a self-confessed drifter. When he tired of a place, he simply left. He lived out in the open, mostly in Salem, Oregon but as far as Chicago, Illinois. He always gravitated home to be near family, however. He typically landed with his sister Tina and her family. Chuck had a son, Corbin Vedack.
Chuck loved his family more than anything. He gathered up nieces and nephews, sometimes more than a dozen, to roast hotdogs and make s’mores around the fire pit. He simply loved the kids, and they loved him. Many nights were spent in that way, a circle of kids and grownups—and beloved Uncle Chuck—around a crackling fire.
Rivers, lakes, and the great outdoors were Chuck’s happy places and he loved fishing. Family will remember him casting a pole with a cigarette in one corner of his mouth and a beer on the ground, his blue eyes squinting in the sun. In lieu of flowers, please enjoy some time with family and send up a prayer for Chuck.
He is survived by parents Cherilyn and James Curths of Hubbard, Oregon; son Corbin Vedack, sister Tina Hartman (Tyrel), brothers Tony Vedack (Angela), Franklin Vedack (Shellie), James Dean Curths (Kari) and Jesse James Curths (Shannon), along with many loving family members.
